View Full Version : More problems (scanner now)
lynchknot June 26th, 2003, 07:00 AM Aww man, is AMD machine going to turn out to be a POS for me? So far the only thing better was the 3D mark score. Well, I installed drivers and software for my Canoscan D1250u2F and I get these error messages:
http://www.speedis.org/images/274691.png
:(
scanner is plugged in - plugs are tight - does not make noise when I plug it into PC.
PIPER June 26th, 2003, 10:42 AM Is it a usb connection? Try unistalling the drivers then reinstall before you connect the scanner....just a thought
Big Booger June 26th, 2003, 10:48 AM lynchknot,
Bud I think you need to get with FG on the phone and let him walk you through the reinstallation of your system. I think you have some programs installed that are screwing it up. I don't think your PC is causing it. The problems you have sound totally like what I get whenever I do a repair or install over an installed OS.
Get with me on netmeeting or something and I can help you out with this. and by the way, Conan is also a very reliable source for reformat help. :D
Sometimes you reformat and it goes wrong. You may just have to do it again. I know that is a pain, but after 2 or 3 times, you'll be a semi-pro like Conan :D
Conan June 26th, 2003, 11:17 AM Is it a USB 2 port? Some motherboards require their drivers to be installed before the ports will work.
phishhead June 26th, 2003, 14:32 PM did you reinstall the usb drivers...because I remember when you did that repair you got errors re: the usb drivers. go into device manager and del the usb stuff reboot and let windows reinstall them.
also i noticed in my bios there is an option to enable usb 1 and 2 ....check for that.
efc June 26th, 2003, 14:54 PM I have a multifunction printer, copier, scanner which has displayed problems during install. It happens when I forget to unplug the usb cable. There is an on screen warning that tells me to do it, however when I'm in a hurry and click the next, next, next without reading it happens. My fix has been to uninstall the printer software, run a registry cleaner to clear a bad registry key and reinstall, this time following the instructions.
lynchknot June 26th, 2003, 17:21 PM "found new hardware" was not working. I downloaded twain drivers and plugged the scanner in and now it works - :D
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 01:10 AM aarrgghh - same problem only the solution won't work this time. Add new hardware does not pop up and in device manager does not even list the scanner - it is plugged in. Anyone have any ideas? I have installed - uninstalled twain drivers - installed/uninstalled/installed usb drivers - nothing works - and don't say, "reformat", I will kill you. I just reformatted yesterday.
Thor July 4th, 2003, 01:15 AM I just reformatted yesterday.
Should be easy then..................nothing to back up or lose.:D http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/8/awink.gif
Just Joking!
Big Booger July 4th, 2003, 01:31 AM Break out the canon manual and follow their instructions for installing the new hardware. :D
That doesnt work get yourself an updated driver for your hardware.
That doesn't work, add the hardware manually.
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 01:43 AM I've already done the first 2 - how do you install manually?
zipp51 July 4th, 2003, 02:48 AM Some scanners require that you have the usb unplugged, installing the drivers first, then you will be instructed to plug it in.I have usb scanner, camera, web cam, printer, sandisk card reader and all instructions require software drivers installed before plugging in the usb port. Also as Conan pointed out,if your motherboard has usb drivers, try installing those first.
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 04:08 AM yeah, i've tried everything........................
"Add new hardware" recognizes everything but the scanner. There is no reaction when I plug it in - no sound, etc...
Big Booger July 4th, 2003, 05:20 AM METHOD ONE - Manually uninstall the Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver
Remove the Zip Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver.
Click Start, select Settings and click Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon.
Click the Device Manager tab and click the plus (+) symbol next to SCSI Controllers.
Note: If there are no SCSI controllers listed within the Device Manager, the driver has not been installed. Please proceed to METHOD TWO
Click the Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver to highlight and then click the Remove button.
Note: If there is no Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver listed under SCSI controllers, please proceed to METHOD TWO
Click the Close button and please continue.
Manually install the Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver from the IomegaWare install CD.
Insert the IomegaWare CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the installation begins automatically, cancel the installation process.
Click Start, select Settings and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add New Hardware.
Click Next.
Click No when asked 'Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware?'
Click Next.
From the Hardware types list, click SCSI controllers.
Click Next.
Click the Have Disk button.
From the Install from disk prompt, click the Browse button.
From the Drives drop-down list, click the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
Within the Folders list, double-click the Drivers folder.
Click the 9x/XP folder.
Note: If you are using an earlier version of Iomega software, some of the folder names may be slightly different - such as w9xstuff.
Double-click the folder titled SCSI and Parallel.
Select the guest.inf file.
Click the OK button.
Click the OK button on the Install from Disk window.
Shut down your computer and attach your Zip parallel port drive.
Restart your computer for changes to take effect.
METHOD TWO - Manually install the Zip parallel port driver without an install CD
Ensure all hidden files and folders are displayed.
Double-click the My Computer icon.
Click the View button.
Click Folder Options or Options.
Select the View tab.
Make sure the Show all files option is checked.
Make sure the Hide file extensions for known file types option is not checked.
Locate and install the Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver.
Click Start, select Settings and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add New Hardware and click Next.
Click No and click Next.
Double-click SCSI Controllers.
Locate and click Iomega on the left-hand side.
Locate and click the Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver.
Click Next and then click Finish.
You will be prompted to restart your system at this point.
Just substitute IOMEGA PARALLEL PORT DRIVER WITH CANON SCANNER. Some of the folders and such will be different so use your scanner manual to find the location of the scanner driver.
:D
Also, have you tried another USB port? Do you have a USB to serial or parallel adapter? Have you tried booting the machine with the scanner turned on and plugged in? Have you tried booting with it just plugged in? Have you tried booting with it not plugged in and then plug it in once you have it booted?
Have you tried using the compatibility mode ?
Have you checked the cables? Are you sure you are installing the most up-to-date driver and twain driver for your hardware?
phishhead July 4th, 2003, 05:27 AM have you tried del the twain and twunk32 files then install the software with the scanner not plugged in the reboot with the scanner plugged in
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 06:29 AM BB, I have no idea what: "Manually install the Iomega Parallel Port Interface driver from the IomegaWare install CD" Whatever it is, I don't have the CD. I am fed up with this PC, maybe PC's in general - maybe i'll get into something else - I hate being frustrated. I'm having both DVD and CD problems again. I put a CD in, to reinstall USB 2.0 drivers again, and what happens? Nothing, it hangs and becomes "unresponsive" when I click the .exe. I try this with both DVD and CDrw. This PC is a POS.
just like the network was working now it won't work at all.
*edit - i'm thinking maybe I have a power supply problem (300 watts) If both CD drive are not working. I did unplug my fans but still no work. The CD spins and the light is on but then becomes dim and blinks fast and the CD stops spinning.
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 07:17 AM False alarm - CD's working. Must have been a booger on the CD or something. I tried installing the software that came with the scanner but it still says that the twain drivers are not installed - but I've been installing it all day. I have the latest twain driver for this model and it worked last time but not now..............
You can see here that their are usb 2.0. The scanner is plugged in (I tried every jack) but it is not recognized in the device manager

lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 08:00 AM trillian, but i just reinstalled it so some passwords maybe off.
Big Booger July 4th, 2003, 08:04 AM well I can't help until you get online :D
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 08:05 AM im connected to aim and icq but i don't know what is wrong with msn.
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 08:08 AM Connecting to MSN as "lynchknot@mxxxxxsn.com", attempt #1.
*** Server Error: Internal server error.
*** Lost connection to server. Err 0:0
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 14:59 PM thanks for your help yesterday BB. I hooked it up to the sony and it said somthing like, you are trying to hook up a high speed device on a low speed line - windows does not recognize device.
When trying to install software it said the same thing about the twain not being installed. Looks like a broken scanner to me..........
I'm going to look for a different power supply and try it.
Big Booger July 4th, 2003, 15:02 PM Glad to have helped. Something is definitely not working right with that scanner. I would send it back to Canon and see if they will send you a new one or repair yours.
Windows should have recognized the scanner as soon as you plugged it in. In this case it didn't, no matter what. It wouldn't even let you manually add it.. :(
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 15:30 PM Problem solved: Bad power supply. It was showing 12 volts but probably not enough current. As soon as I plugged in a good PS windows recognized the scanner.
Next project is that network...........:D
FastGame July 4th, 2003, 16:00 PM Good to see you got it working :)

Good luck
lynchknot July 4th, 2003, 16:09 PM Well, I spoke too soon. Has another problem
http://www.techstarcomputers.net/~sighost/sigs/scanprob.JPG
*edit - now it says that I need to unlock the scanner (bottom has a lock switch when shipping) but it is unlocked already.
cash_site July 5th, 2003, 01:28 AM Cant you just scratch the glass, then RMA it saying it arrived like that ?? Its giving you more troubles than its worth.
Are you using a MAC or just got XP theme? My Cousin bought that same scanner and hasnt had a single problem with it? DO you have USB2.0 High-Speed ports?
Well, hope it gets fixed. :D
lynchknot July 5th, 2003, 01:34 AM xp and 2.0 - never had a problem with scanner until now. Scanner has less than 50 scans in.
Big Booger July 5th, 2003, 11:52 AM *chants "RMA, RMA, RMA.."
hehehe
lynchknot July 5th, 2003, 14:47 PM Maybe take it back to the store and get another one - exchange.
lynchknot July 7th, 2003, 00:40 AM Well that's just great! They don't carry this model anymore (Canon D1250U2F) and it's a little over a month out of warrantee.
FastGame July 7th, 2003, 01:33 AM So you tried it on another PC & it still doesn't work ? man I thought those were good scanners :(
Glad I stuck with the MicroteK 4900 you told me about...how long ago ??? :D
lynchknot July 7th, 2003, 01:41 AM yeah but I had problems with the 4900 as well - but were software related.
Big Booger July 7th, 2003, 04:19 AM Walmart still carries it:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1811986&cat=37807&type=1&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A3951%3A37807
You can buy a new one, then return it for your money back :D
cash_site July 7th, 2003, 05:52 AM Excellent Idea BB ;)
You could even ask for an exchange for a different scanner :D
Then sell the Canon 12uf that you replaced(working one) on Ebay for a nice profit :D
Big Booger July 7th, 2003, 06:00 AM exactly. Slightly dishonest, but if your morality goes the way of Satan, why not do it?
:D
Exercise the demons. "Well isn't that special"

FastGame July 7th, 2003, 06:18 AM *Beatles/Instant Karma will get you>:(
Other than that BB's idea sounds pretty good :bat:
