View Full Version : Speeding, I was caught
Big Booger July 24th, 2003, 10:57 AM I just got nabbed doing 93 in a 60. It is a 4 lane highway. 2 lanes going north, and two going south separated by a road barrier. I was at a light, first in pole position :p and I hit the gas. Was talking to my wife not paying attention really as we were going to wax the car and walk the dog. Look up and see the paddy wagon on the left side of the road.. and this Japanese cop comes running out onto the 2 lane highway waving a flag at me.. so I pull off, the cop comes up, starts speaking Japanese.. I haven't the foggiest what he is saying.. I give him my license as I kind of figured maybe that was what he was blabbering about.. He starts talking to my wife and tells me I was doing 93 in a 60.. I told him I didn't know how fast I was going as I wasn't really paying attention to the speedometer. Well he gets me out and makes me go have a look at the radar.. sure enough it says 93km/h. I was 33km/h over the limit.
So he tells me to go sit in the back of the paddy wagon. I think he is going to write me a ticket and send me on about my way.. little did I know. Now a little about where I am at in mental mode and physical surroundings:
1 we are on a road that is between two Japanese rice fields out in the "boonies" of Japan. I am inside a tiny little van, with 6 seats. My head rubs the ceiling when standing.. The van is white, and has the police decals all over it.. the cop looks like the cops from Anime cartoons.. all blue, with black boots, black gloves, white helmet, no gun, 1 stick etc...
I am asked all my info, but as I don't understand a word the cop is saying, I have my wife inside translating. She is going through the same thing as I. I felt like sh*t for her..
He continues asking sh*t, and she provides him things and then he oversteps what I consider the privacy bounds by asking me my employers name and address.. my wife asks me to make sure, and I say I'd rather not give that information. The cop says fine and marks it out on the document. I go on and on about how I am sorry, and such.. this all took about 1 hour. Afterward I am thinking of how to get out of this, so I am thinking of refusing to sign the document after he is finished based on the fact that their machine could be wrong, I've never gotten a ticket in japan in my life etc...
Well, to make it short, he radios in to the main branch and finds out how I can not lose my license, how it can be cheap, and the easiest court I have to attend.. After hearing the news I ask him what will happen if I leave the country and not come back.. he was shocked, but didn't give a rats ass either way.. so I tell him I'll sign and am debating what to do now.
The price of the ticket will be between 30000-60000 yen.. then the cost of court, driving school, and the penalty school (*dont ask I have no idea what the hell that is) etc.. and then my insurance will go up.
I know I was speeding and was doing something wrong, but JESUS CHRIST.. give a man a break.. I mean I wasn't drag racing, wasn't driving in an erroneous or felonous way, I was speeding. Give me a ticket and I'll pay my fine..
And get this, he went on to tell me that had I been doing 29KM over, I'd pay a small fine and be given a warning.. What a crock of cow dung..
Well I came home and put a nice big hole in my wall that will have to be patched.. what a retard I am. :D
That is my great day today!
Conan July 24th, 2003, 11:04 AM It's hard to keep within the speed limit in a Turbo car!
Big Booger July 24th, 2003, 11:12 AM :d yeah I learned the hard way.. but come one 3KM less and I'd have a warning.. I can say this, Japanese don't have compassion.
cash_site July 24th, 2003, 11:55 AM LOL, sorry BB, but I was waiting for you to get in some sort of trouble with that car of yours.... j/k I mean you have to see the funny side of it all, we spent all this time building up the tension of getting the new TURBO car etc... I thought you would have been nabbed when you went to the Stars wars Show
I was doing 180KM/hr ++
Dont get me wrong, I HATE c*ppers too. In Aus thats all they do, sit in the car with radar and raise MILLIONS of $$, thats how they afford the lastest performance vehicles for Highway Patrol ;)
You could have argued that the speedo said you were doing less than 30km/h over the limit to get the warning. But in Aus, we have a 10% margin from the manufacturer but the c*pper will fine you more than 3%!!
Must have been an experience though, a little surreal with Anime Police LOL... well hope you get through the court stuff etc.
Might be time to invest in Radar Detector or Jammer ;)
Are you regretting buying the car yet? :p Dont worry bro, thats part of owning a fast car... lucky the c*ppers dont hunt for hoons.
PIPER July 24th, 2003, 12:06 PM lol....Should you change your handle to "Big Footer"...:D
Big Booger July 24th, 2003, 12:13 PM I'm gonna look into one of those radar jammers ASAP. But I am afraid it may not work, and then I'd be screwed.
It's just that at 60KM/h that is 40mph. I mean in America school zones are registered at 40mph.. 93 is 57MPH.. and if you could see the road I was travelling on..
I will slow down for a while, but as soon as I get that radar jammer, it's TURBO TIME!!! BEWARE YOU JAPANESE MOTORISTS, booger is on the loose:D
Reverend July 24th, 2003, 12:34 PM Get them to test their Radar equipment.
Your car couldn't reach 93 KMH,even downhill with a hurricane blowing behind it. :msntongue
Trade the car in Boogs,i've found you the perfect replacement.

Big Booger July 24th, 2003, 12:46 PM now I can laugh. 4 hours ago, I was hot.. and steamed. Still am a little.. but thus is life. :D
That Rickshaw looks awful speedy hehehe
:D
Piper you sir are a hoot. :D
SupaStar July 25th, 2003, 00:51 AM Boogs, if anyone knows the pain of getting a huge speeding fine and then losing your licence, it is me. A while ago, I was booked after traveling at 110km/h in a (temporary) 60km/h zone - open country road, NO traffic! That cost me $300 AUD and I lost my licence for 3 months!!!!
Revenue made from speeding fines is big business over here and the police are like hawks. They will now even book you for travelling 3km/h over the limit.
But hey, I can laugh now and I learnt my lesson pretty quickly ;)
So just take it easy Big Footer :p and wait a 6-8 months before starting to speed again :D
efc July 25th, 2003, 02:00 AM Everyone has a ticket story. Mine came three weeks after moving to Galena, Illinois from Germany. Remember that there no speed limit on the autobahn. I still had a lead foot when I went through a speed trap in East Dubuque, IL. I sailed through a 30 mph section at 52 mph. That one cost me nearly $75 in fines and $300 a year in additional insurance cost. The total was nearly $1000.
cash_site July 25th, 2003, 02:55 AM additional insurance cost
This is one of the worst side-effects of speeding... the fine is a bit of a hit, but the increase in insurance can really hurt, could be difference of trading the car for the RickShaw or adding a BIGGER turbo ;)
So just take it easy Big Footer :p and wait a 6-8 months before starting to speed again :D
Nah, what are the chances of getting caught again, risk it now!! j/k We always get caught when we least expect it, remind to tell you some of my stories ;) Im sure Supa can say some - Three cars wide down a two-lane road :D
Just take it easy, we dont want fried Booger.

I remember that event like it was yesterday :p

Ha-ha! You should try driving here, traffic laws are almost never enforced! :D
SupaStar July 25th, 2003, 08:35 AM I like the sound of that..hehe :D
Big Booger July 25th, 2003, 08:45 AM The funny thing is, in japan, the cops always are at the same place. I knew the area and spot where they'd be, but I was just jabbering away with my wife not paying attention like a moron. :D LOL
I'll go through hell I am sure, but I can post about it and have the experience in the future. Japan loves to make people go through the red tape, and in fact they smother you with it if you break the rules LOL
phishhead July 25th, 2003, 14:57 PM yeah conan is right. Everytime I went to the PI man I was scared sh!tless. I mean they have 2 lane roads that are turned into 4-5lane highways. :D My speeding ticket story is when I had a suped up VW Bug with a 2180cc motor. I mean I use to race the rice rockets and muscle cars and leave them in the dust off the line. but when they caught up is what all over. well any ways I was doing about 120 on a back highway racing a mustang and got pulled over. got a 400 dollar ticket and lost my license for 3months after I got it back got in 2 fender benders so I sold it and bought a VW bus. NO speeding after that.:D was lucky to get to 75mph.

Everyone has a ticket story.
Sadly I don't have a story :) after 8 years of driving
Our speed limits are slightly higher over here, 70mph on motorways, plus 8 times out of 10 most speed cameras are clearly marked, to encourage you to slow down.
There is still a bit of the "profiteering" with some police forces but most would prefer you to slow down instead of fine you
France is even better 80mph on motorways
Big Booger July 26th, 2003, 07:51 AM Had I known I would've gotten a ticket, I'd have been doing near to 120.. as if you go double they suspend your license for 1 year.. :D
I would have done 119 :D Same fine, same shit.. more speed hehehe
In Japan many roads are very short.. but the road I was cruising on was rather long and is 4 lanes.. and the limit is 60km.. which is a joke. had I been doing 89, just a warning.. 93 ticket, court, school..
MSNwar July 26th, 2003, 21:13 PM Boogs, sounds like the officer was asking for a bribe when he mentioned that a few k.s less would just be a warning. Next time, open your wallet, slip him a business card, and a $50 bill. Now, if he is the honest type and screams just say you misunderstood and thought he was asking for $50.00 payment. After all, Japanese is not your native language so there are bound to be misunderstandings. Make sure you do this first without a translator present. Why do you think he asked you to get in the van? No one would see him accept a bribe!
cash_site July 28th, 2003, 02:29 AM hehe, I didnt see that MSN... Interesting point... I guess there are some places that good old "hand in pocket" works ;)
It actually makes sense now, I bet BB's wife knew, but said he wasnt going to pay the stoopid copper :p lol
well, learn your lesson and do 119
its all very funny.
misskellibad1 July 28th, 2003, 02:54 AM Booger, I must say you sure can spin a tale! Hilarious! I look forward to the next chapter, maybe you can call it "Big Footer Slows To A Crawl".;)
Dehcbad25 July 28th, 2003, 04:40 AM My only ticket ever was unatentive driving, becase I slam the car into the contension barrier after making a wrong turn at 65 M/h (I guess)
The cop actually gave the the lower fine since I had no record, I was extremely mad (kind of crazy) since that place was not marked, and it was a sharp exit at a freeway. Cop even confessed there are at least a similar accident a month.
I took the rail with me half the car size (Ford Taurus GL, which is LONNNNGG)
Lesson?? Get Sport Brakes :p
Big Booger July 28th, 2003, 05:34 AM HEHE,
Yeah if I bribed him, knowing Japanese, I'd go straight to the slammer.. no exceptions :D The thing was this van housed several drivers at a time. While I was there, 4 others came and went. I guess they were under the 30KM limit :D
I am gonna slow down I suppose.. it is just hard when you are used to travelling at 60,70, and 80 miles per hour, when you have to go down to 25, 40, and 60 miles per hour..
:D
I just wished your past clean record accounted for something in Japan.. it doesn't.
Conan July 28th, 2003, 11:07 AM I agree Boogs, bribing some cop in Japan is not recommended. Now if you were here in my country, you would have gotten scott free for $ 10 bucks or less!:p
zipp51 July 28th, 2003, 11:59 AM Here's my speeding story.I left my house and within not more than 200 yds from there I got stopped for going 50 in a 35 mile an hour zone. Not only that but my license had expired,so I was asked to step out of the car, while the town cop wrote my ticket out.He presented me with the ticket and asked me if there was any particular towing company I would like, and if not he would call the local guy the police contract with. Now you know what I'm going to ask the cop."I just live right over there officer, right down the road how about you let me drive it home and park it in the driveway"?Do you think the !#%& would let me do that, not on your life.$75 to have his guy tow my car 200 yds.In court I did better though,I plead guilty which this particular judge liked because everyone was pleading not guilty in traffic court that day,and with my newly acquired license I paid $60 in court costs.Total with speeding and driving without a license, towing and court cost would have run me $410 to the $135 I did pay.
Stripe July 28th, 2003, 12:32 PM Sorry, really no speeding stories here (especially since I'm in the states and in California so no one pays attention to the speed limit anyways).....
Have heard stories about speeding tickets and stuff from my wife....She's always the driver that will drive the speed limit and keep looking over your shoulder to make sure you are too :D
zipp51 July 28th, 2003, 12:47 PM HahahahahLOL @ stripe. Good one.
misskellibad1 July 28th, 2003, 16:24 PM You know, if you were all looking way up the road like my driving instructor taught me, you'd see the coppers and would live to tell speeding stories without the courts.
Of course, as I'm writing this I'm banging both my fists on my wood desk, for good measure :D
Of course, it doesn't hurt to immediately turn into a blonde when you get pulled over, but I hear that only works for women;)
lynchknot July 28th, 2003, 16:40 PM Here's a typical male moment in history to go with my typical male avatar - hehehe
I had a "blond" in my car and decided to stretch out my penis extension on the way to Grants Pass (Fastgame knows the route) on I-5 south from Portland.
I get pulled over and the cop (camaro) was nice enough to give me a ticket for a 100mph - 65mph less than the car was actually traveling - To top that off, my license was suspended - I did not know because I moved and did not put change of address yet.
I could have gone to jail that day, but instead he made her drive my car - (she ground every gear/lugged the motor while taking off) -
That was a very big ticket - I sold the car and bought a Harley (a bigger extension maybe) and decided to just cruise.
misskellibad1 July 28th, 2003, 20:38 PM yeah you're right, typically male.
Was it worth it?;)
lynchknot July 28th, 2003, 20:40 PM :p :p :p - i'll never tell!

I loved driving in CA, would do like 50 and race at the lights in front of the small school at my aparment block :D
I made it from SF to Las Vegas in less than 6hrs ~ Had cruise control set on 100 all the way :D
But in Aus, they will get you for doing 1 over the limit, so now use cruise control everywhere!! Its saved me thousands of dollars!
Stripe July 30th, 2003, 12:57 PM I don't get speeding tickets...I get tickets for breaking other driving laws
The first year of college, I got a ticket for passing a school bus (Not intentionally). It was a four lane road with one of those empty spaces between. The cop just stood there and pulled 7~8 of us over and wrote tickets for us all. Only later did I find out it was a $568 dollar fine. Ouch! I now stop for every single blinking school bus light!
As for my wife, cops just follow her around. Whenever she's in the car, I swear I see the entire police force no matter how far we drive. She's a definate cop magnet.
cash_site July 31st, 2003, 04:49 AM She's a definate cop magnet
Is that good or bad ;) ?? j/k
Stripe July 31st, 2003, 13:06 PM Is that good or bad
Good and bad.....
Means she doesn't speed for fear of getting a ticket
Bad because I can't speed when she's with me because I don't care if I get a ticket or not. :D
