i supposedly have 256kbps upload with my cable isp. i have been hosting ftp and website for the last year with it.. i have tweaked with my registry settings to try and maximize throughput and I have tested it with no tweakings and its always about the same.. I never see anyone downloading from me at more that 35kbps or so... and if more people get on... say the ftp server for instance... it just seems to basically divide that 35kbps.. is that expected or is there something wrong? i am behind a linksys router...

several of us are having this very problem. I have come to determine we are throttled by our ISPs.. which sucks.

i had a second cable internet connection installed today for business purposes and the install guy (comcast isp) said that its ok to uncap cable modems.. he said the only thing they look out for is email abuse.. said he does it at home and gets over 3mb download.. for work purposes i am concerned with upload speeds.. but i thought it was interesting that he was saying this stuff cuz all i ever seem to hear about is how people get pegged for uncapping their modems..

just wondering...
I thought you have to divide by 10 your connection speed.
if i connect on a modem at 33kbps
i normally download at 3.4kbps
on my adsl
i have 1.5 mbps
and 500kbps upload
when i download from Microsoft i can download at 153kbps
and upload at
46kbps
this translates to 1530 kbps download and 460kbps upload.
This is what my isp advertises as the transfer rate...
is this wrong?
