Microsoft hopes to have your car tell you when it needs an oil change.
The software giant says its latest goal is to put a computer in every vehicle.
Cars with Microsoft software would alert drivers when oil changes are needed and provide warnings about problems on the road while scouting alternative routes. It would also pay tolls automatically.
The Microsoft platform is currently in 23 car models, including the BMW Seven series. The company also has deals with Honda, Volvo and others.
ZDNet.com reported that the cars that use Microsoft use the slimmed-down Windows CE operating system.
Microsoft says drivers are being distracted by several gadgets, including hand-held viewers that offer traffic reports. The company's "T-Box" could be available in about a year to connect all the gadgets, making them hands-free.
