Almost every device that connects and communicates on the Internet is doing so over TCP/IP and thus uses an IP address. If you're reading this article online, you have an IP address. IP addresses are allotted to Internet service providers (ISPs) and distributed to your PC each time you connect to the Internet. It's how you communicate online, and it's also how you are tracked.

If you commit a crime online (please don't) you'll be tracked by law enforcement using your IP address. The ISP gets subpoenaed, and it turns over the record of who was using that particular IP address at that given time.

Learn from hackers

How do hackers keep from getting caught? One trick is to use anonymous proxy servers, which are servers that sits between a client (you), and the Web server on the Internet that's providing information for the page you are viewing. The proxy acts like a shield that hides the fact that your computer made the data request. Instead, the Web server sees the request as coming from the proxy.

A hacker connects through multiple proxy servers and then performs whatever evil deed he's planning. The user's compromised computer reports the anonymous proxy server to law enforcement.

Now, I know none of you will be using this application to perform crimes. But it can be a great way to surf the Web anonymously. Internet Anonym changes anonymous proxy servers every few seconds, keeping your connection 100 percent anonymous.

IP address spoofing is another common technique. The few prosecutions we've made have always involved the tracing of MAC addresses through the router paths. A real pain the butt to track down and document. With the final search and seizure of the offending computer and it's ethernet address, there's usually a sucessful prosecution.

I haven't tried this, mainly because I don't download music or movies. I also don't encourage anyone else to do so. But when it comes to browsing with privacy this should work better than ip spoofing. The reason is due to the changing of proxy servers every few seconds. Besides, with IP spoofing, you are breaking into another computer. I don't want anyone in my computer so it would seem proper to stay out of others.

here's a cool proxy finding utillity

Charon - Proxy filtering / searching / checking utility.

i ran this program and it made a list of proxies

i entered one in firefox and surfed the net with a new ip address

this is badass....

remember that the proxy owner logs ip addresses so if you are a badass they can reach you through the ip logs they have

i dunno.......

my conspiracy mind likes to say to you that these proxy services are used for people with something toi hide so you would think that some proxy or services may be set up to extract or monitor their users..:eek: :confused:

relax everyone....:D it is just a theory and may not represent the true reason
