xvid codec install problem

hey guys I just finished setting up my old 550 for my son. So for some background info I remember that xp was just a snail so I put win2k on it with sp4. Now I installed the kazaa bs codec set and windvd...but it failed installing the xvid codec...so I installed the kopec(spelling) xvid codec it also fails. Gives me the generic xvid.exe has caused errors and will now close. So any ideas. the hardware is a 550mhz amd, 256 pc100, 10gig western digital, 16meg nvidia vanta card. I think it could be the video card since its so old.

You mean the svid codec as for watching avi??
Then all you have to do is restart :p
The dll do not unload form the system after being use and instalation fails.
Same if you tried to watch something that use this codecs (they are a pain)
