why install this and pay when u could just install a patch and install the visual styles urself

I agree with that, but StyleXP makes it simple to manage your themes and also change your boot and login screens.

It is also a tad bit safer than trying to edit the kernel exe file, you can easily revert back to default too. And most times, the trial period/features is enough to customise your computer a little ;)
