Just got a duel 550 Pent III with WIN2K3 Small Biz Server installed.
Want to add it into my Network which has a very old 266mhz 64MB with NT4 service pack6a.
Problem according to what I read is 2003 will not recognise a PDC. Has to be a BDC to replicate to 2003 Server.
Havn't hooked the 2003 into LAN yet want to have a feel for what I should do. Is there a way to demote the NT4 to a BDC ?

Hi and welcome to TechZonez
that is a nice big jump in specs, skipped win2k server. SBS2k3 is great, we are resellers and its an excellent package with everything they need :D First off what role does your NT4 play and what is it used for and whats installed etc
As it is quite old, I would almost be tempted to just bring the NT4 server down, and install SBS2k3 in and configure. Dont worry about the 266, try to sell it :D
Let us know how you go.

Whatever you choose, this white paper below, will no doubt be helpful:

You are probably right about just bringing it down and bringing up w2k3, I was hoping to use the experiance so I can assist clients who will be moving off of NT4 also and trying to learnabout AD which seems to be the trick of the day.
My 266 is really no more then a glorified User accountability and Storage facility for web downloads.
The clients on the other hand have client/server apps they run so still need to find out how to bring w2k3 up in a NT4 environment.
Thanks for your quick response.

Nice Article James, SBS2003 is an excellent server package with added value of Exchange and other need software for small businesses. We use it at work and resell it to customers.
