This free online utitilty lets you check Internet Explorer for security holes and certain 'hacks'. If it does indeed find anything wrong, it will then tell you what you need to do to fix the problems.
Today's busiest companies, such as Adobe, Apple, Bank of the West, BlueCross, Fujitsu, HP, and Siebel Systems, use Qualys to automatically audit their Internet-connected networks for security vulnerabilities. QualysGuard Web services enables security providers, security professionals and corporate customers to automate, scale and provide cost-effective security auditing and risk assessment.

I did all of the test and there were two that I failed but Microsoft hasnt issued a patch or a fix for them... I followed the advice and now I am fairly confident that my browser is safe from attacks.

This also a good site to check your browser:

It's by Fred Langa and I get his newsletter with lots of good information.

the first browser test(http://browsercheck.qualys.com/) tells me that cookies are not enabled in my browser and asks me to restart the page if cookies are infact enabled. But I cannot get past this stage.

The second test(http://www.browsertune.com/bt2kfast/start.htm) works fine and says "Great! Your browser supports Cookies
and your Cookie support is active!"
WHAA?? does my IE 6 support cookies or not? I thought IE 6 supported cookies by default. I've searched but could not find and 'enable cookies' or 'disable cookies' options in IE 6....

It's under Tools> Internet Options> Privacy, there's a settings slider and Advanced button for more options. Maybe your setting was to strict for the first site.
