Dutch Pirate Party Ordered To Stop Hosting Pirate Bay Proxy

This morning, the Hague court has ordered the Dutch Pirate Party to stop providing proxy access to The Pirate Bay (TPB) website following a complaint by the anti-piracy group BREIN.

Two of the country’s biggest Internet service providers (ISPs) were made to prohibit access to TPB in January, and five more – today. The Netherlands branch of the Pirate Party has been ordered to stop hosting a proxy which helps circumvent the block, as well as remove any direct links to other TPB dedicated proxies.

In the UK, the situation is nearly identical. At the end of April, the court also ordered several ISPs to prevent users from accessing the Swedish content sharing website. The UK Pirate Party is also offering a proxy to maintain the ability of users to reach the site.

It was the Dutch Pirate Party that sued the “Hollywood funded” (according to TorrentFreak) BREIN after it obtained an injunction to take the proxy offline. Unfortunately for the Pirate Party, the injunction was confirmed by the verdict. The political organisation now runs the risk of being fined €5,000 (£4,0180) per day if it fails to comply and take its proxy offline.
