When a reminder appears in Outlook it is of the format 12/19/2005 eg for representing the 19th of december
However, being here in the UK this is an alien way to carry on with dates
So - how do I change it to 19/12/2005? format

Its controlled from your windows time/date settings.
Control Panel > Regional and Language Options.
On the Regional Options tab select English (United Kingdom) from the Standards and formats drop down menu and click Apply,OK.

yep - you were right
but I had to select a 'customise' tab in there under advanced settings
had to restart outlook to make the changes come into effect
