Pirate Bay hits out over High Court blocking order

The Pirate Bay has hit out at a court order requiring leading UK internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to the site and has urged members of the public to write to MPs and ISPs complaining about the decision.

The High Court ruling requires Orange, Sky, O2, Virgin Media and TalkTalk to block the site after the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) requested the order under the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act.

The Pirate Bay said the move was an example of hypocrisy on behalf of the government, likening it to the censorship seen in Iran and China, and said a stand should be taken by the public to stop such measures becoming commonplace.

"Next time they're coming for something else. And yes, there will be a next time if we don't stop them. Write to your ISP and tell them to appeal the case," it said in a blog post.

"Write to your local MPs and tell them that this is not allowed. Make sure your voice is heard. Remember, we're all The Pirate Bay, and we must stand united against the censorship from our opponents."

It also complained that it was not given the right to have its arguments heard in the case.

"This is not the first time this happens, it's been the same in most countries we're censored in. We have no right to speak since we're not rich," it said.
