Outlook will not delete

I am having a problem with Outlook Express. I can open mail in my main identity, but I can not delete it. I can delete mail in the other identities. This is what I have tried to correct the problem. 1. Reboot the system. 2. Reload Outlook, then reboot. 3. I looked at the settings and could find no setting to prevent me from deleting mail. I don't know what else to do, and would appreciate any help.
