When I go to the the print menu in file/print, it takes forever for the dialog box to pop up. Why would this be?

When I go to the the print menu in file/print, it takes forever for the dialog box to pop up. Why would this be?
In what program or window? Is it that way all the time? Try it in Notepad. Is it the same there?
In printer preferences, set priority to 1 and "start printing immediately".
