I forgot to renew my Microsoft Action Pack subscription this year, and due to the horrendous amount of Microsoft-induced spam, I did not receive the reminder notices sent to my Hotmail account. I have the junk mail filters set to Exclusive, so I only receive email from those I've allowed to pass, and the Action Pack folks are not on that list. Since I don't yet have the renewal process completed, I have no Windows Server 2003 installation to play with. No matter, though. I have RC2 stashed on a VMWare virtual machine, just so I can play with the cool toys that are starting to emerge for the new server OS. The latest is the IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools. IIS 6.0 is a vastly different animal than those it supercedes, so don't walk into the new version without some familiarity with where the differences lie. Many of the changes have to do with security and administration, both of which were areas sorely in need of attention. As Resource Kits go, this is one of the more useful tool sets I've seen to date. I don't recall right off the top whether I included the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools in the Tech Specialist or simply had the link bookmarked for follow-up that never happened. Either way, this page was liked to from the IIS 6.0 Resource Kit description page, and I figured it couldn't hurt to toss it in alongside the web server tools.
