    Which Codec?

Is there any application or method to know which codec was used to encode a video file? (if I don't have the codec installed)
Also, do you guys know of any guide to best install codecs and which?
I used to know of one but the web site has been down for months

I use a small program called GSpot to find out which codecs are used.

Seems to work flawlessly.. they have full to basic packages. Full adds some players and things (Windows media Player classic that plays any file under the sun).. :P

I use the full version 2.26

I'm going to second boog's arguement, agreeing that the Kazaa Lite Codec Pack will handle all your codec needs.

Media Player Classic has also allowed me to play every file I have. Video clips that normally skip in PowerDVD play fine with MPC (thanks BB ).

-Thnks for the link Booger, and the question Dehc, I just downloaded said and recommended 2.26 codec pack.

k-lite pack did the trick, but the screens flickers about 6 times before opening the video file. Well, something is something .
I will keep testing more tomorrow

Just out of interest, people seem to be using the Kazaa codec pack a lot, and my thoughts on Kazaa always ring bells in my head concerning spyware. Now I know i'm over paranoid most the time but does anyone know if the codec pack installs any spyware?

Kazaa was known for spyware, the codecs are from Kazaa Lite (Kazaa with all the spyware removed).

I have k-lite mega and could not find a codec to play a video. G-spot finally found a combination from Nero to play the video but it took so long to load. What do you guys think of ACE mega codec pack?
    *edit
Oh well, I installled ACE and uninstalled k-lite - now "BigBooger's ticket" plays instantly.
