    Exclamation win xp problem!

    Hi Everyone

I'm running Win XP Home on a 1 yr old machine. My PC was running slow so I ran defrag & scandisk. Both took an exceptionally long time to complete.
Afterwards I noticed that a lot of file and folder names now appear in blue text as opposed to black. I know this is a minor, but an irritating problem. Can anyone tell me what has caused this? Also, the menu bar in several programmes, including calculator, remains 'highlighted' even though they have not yet been clicked on. Norton's reports no virus but I'm not so sure. Any advice??
    Thanks

Files/Folders highlighted in blue have been compressed.
Explanation here "OK, why are some of my files blue?"

I presume you mean Program shortcuts on the Start Menu ??

    To turn this option off:
Right click the Start button and select Properties. Hit the Customize button, and on the Advanced tab uncheck "Highlight Newly Installed Programs". Click OK twice.

Note: This option doesn't apply if using the "Classic" start menu
