Adding a recordable DVD drive for backing-up archives is an easy way for system builders to add value to their white-box systems. For small-business and home customers, DVD-R is a superior solution for data that is important enough to require offsite long-term backup. The drives are inexpensive compared with tape backup. And in my opinion, DVD is more reliable than tape, especially low-end tape drives.
