    AV tester speaks

What do you guys think of this?

The various international Internet security organizations and US Dept. of Homeland Defense have deemed the home computer as the greatest threat to the Internet. I believe this to be true, to an extent. There is still a surprising lack of education among home users concerning Internet security. I strongly believe this, and a newer, more malicious generation of viruses is going to have an enormous impact on antivirus companies as they eventually find it harder to keep pace. The superworms haven't made their debut yet, but it's only a matter of time before they do. I only hope we're ready.

Over the past few months I have been witness to a lot of change in the world of hostile code and the tools we all use to counter them and I am distressed. Overall, I am not impressed with any software as I have been in the past. It is my opinion that we are fighting a losing battle and seeing the beginning of the end of antivirus software as we know it. Not a single antivirus program I have tested this time has been 100% effective. Don't get me wrong, many of the programs I've tested and recommended before have done their usual fine job detecting and removing well-known viruses we've seen on the news and many examples we haven't, but are very destructive. However, I have seen a sharp rise in less-than-effective detection and removal of many nagging-pain-in-the-butt temp and redirect viruses seen in everything from porn sites to online game sites. I don't care what any av company says, not one scanner I tested is exempt from this.
