    Question System Tray

I've accidentally deleted the startup registry entry for systray.exe
Could someone give me the entry. I can't run the system tray simply by clicking Windows/System32/systray.exe

    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1482476501-1788223648-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\SysTray

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\SysTray

Those were the only two keys I found.

Have you tried just using system restore? Do you have a registry backup that you could restore?

No - I don't have a system restore. Not sure what to do with HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\SysTray which is the only key I found.

what version of windows are u running? If u still have win 98 u can boot to the DOS prompt and type scanreg /restore and find three or four registry backup points.

Actually if you have the WinXP Powertoy TweakUI, you can repair your registry according to its GUI.

I don't know if this would work, but have you tried the system file checker?

    sfc /scannow

? Just wondering. Also have you taken a look at this article from MS:

Didn't work. I also don't use sytem restore so can't follow the advice in the link. Perhaps SP2 will fix the prob. I'll wait for the official version. I'm using an alternative system tray that comes with DesktopX for the time being.
    Thanks for trying.

This may work. Shareware program PS Tray Factory. Try it for free.

PS Tray Factory Review (from Soft32.com) PS Tray Factory allows you to: hide low-activity icons from a system tray into menu, hide inactive icons from a system tray into menu (as in Windows XP), get fast access to the hidden icons, change the order of icons in the menu and in the system tray (sort tray), protect tray menu with password, minimize any application to tray, restore icons in system tray area at crash or restarting Explorer.

I performed a search for systray.exe on my computer. It resides at c:\windows\system32. You might do the same search to see if the file is missing.
