My connection times out when its trying to get a new page

My connection times out too quickly when I try to get a new page. Where

can I change the setting? How long should I give it to get a new web page?

I think I set it for 30 seconds before. I am on cable and XP. I have a 2.1

    Celeron processer. Thank you

The processor is not the problem. The bottle-neck is with the internet connection. My guess is that you have something like DoubleClick that is attempting to report home, and is holding everything hostage until it happens.

I scan my system at least once a day with AVG, Spybot S&D and AdAware. Even so, yesterday Spybot S&D found 48 bots that had accumulated since the previous scan the day before. If you don't scan and remove often they can slow your browsing to a crall.

I remember setting my PC to time out, to

stop trying to get a connection after a short time. The default amount of time

was 5 minutes. I forget where I saw the setting. I will run Spy Sweeper

though. Thank you for replying. Any other suggestions? Thank you
