Is there free software that will open a RAR file?

I already tried 'ULTIMATE ZIP'. It is not worth it to pay $30 for WINRAR.

    Thank you

WinRAR does have a 30-day trial version, it continues to work after that time, it just has a nag screen ie old winzip.

It still does the job though.

You can try one of these freeware programs:
    "IZArc" from http://www.izsoft.dir.bg/izarc.htm
    or "FilZip" from http://www.filzip.com/en/index.html
but winRar is absolutely the best for .rar format (also on Linux machines).

It can also create great self-extracting installers with heaps of features.
