Internet Explorer Ver. 6 problems ...

    Hello:

My computer tends to lock up a lot, and act weird when IE is open. Would anyone recommend just reloading Internet Explorer to assure it works correctly?

    Thanks all,
    Kristina

    Thanks much! Will do.

I have McAfee VirusScan and check for viruses periodically, but I've always seemed to experience problems. Would it hurt to re-install IE? Or would it just lead to more headaches!?

many users here would like to find the easy way out.

this involves taking the computer to the store and having a tech format and re-install everything

i am not sure if re-installing internet explorer will help you determine and elliminate the source (eg... spyware, adware etc...)

you need to first assess the situation and determine if you have a virus or trojan or spyware that is straining your computer.

follow the steps in the spyware removal thread including the online virus scan

each scanner detects things others miss.

spyware tends to mess with internet explorer and cause lockups etc...

after you scan and clean your computer you should stop using Microsoft's internet explorer and use a safer alternative like firefox.
    http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

it is better than internet explorer in many ways and is also safer.

    btw

Internet explorer won't let you install anything pass
version 6.0 for some retarded reason, or I might just
have something bad living on my PC. I was able to find
a file which contained all of the options that Internet
explorer would have if it was located on the start menu
but I can't find it. I would love to use firefox or perferably
Netscape Navigator 7.0, but I have an online class that
requires me to use Internet Explorer, which really sucks

I don't even have Internet Explorer on my Add/Remove Programs
list but many icons throughout my files contain Internet Explorer icons.

What can I do about this? People at school haven't even been able to help really...

What can I do to simply emininate all Internet Explorer files
when Internet Explorer 6.0 isn't on my add/remove programs list?
