Try system restore to your last checkpoint before loss of power?

I have had the same thing to happen to me. I had to do a fresh install of XP to solve the issue. You should look into a UPS to help you out on this issue. The UPS will help out during short power outages and the higher priced ones as a rule have some power condition built in.

I worked for a company that had a UPS connected to a computer. The UPS was
a little old but one Friday afternoon I saw a little smoke coming form that area. Latter on that UPS started a little fire. We put out the fire and moved that UPS outside but if that happened durring the weekend that would be a bad thing for that company. Since then I don't think I would want a UPS in my house.
