    Window XP Registry Cleaners?

Install an older version of visual basic 4 in Windows XP then I decided to
remove it. I go to Add/remove programs in my control panel. Visual basic 4
does not show up in the Add/remove window to allow me to remove it.
So I go to MS Explorer and go to the program Files folder and delete the
MS visual basic 4 folder. Only way I know how to get rid of the program.
I also delete the VB4 icons on the programs pop up on desk top.
Ok, Window still runs and I have not missed anything up. I use regedit
and go to the registry. I see visual basic 4 listed under Microsoft Software
in the registry. I did not delete that simply because I don't want to take
a chance so I leave the registry alone.
So how do I clean my registry? Is it ok to manually delete that visual
baisc 4 heading with its information form the registry ? Is there any good utilities to clean the registry? Maybe there is a book or link that
tells me how to manually clean XP registry?
What is the best way to completly clean a programs such has visual
    basic 4, etc form XP.
    Thank you,

bit and will probaly list many problems with it

and then again, there might be better ones

The reg cleaner in "Fix it utilities" is supposed to be one of the best.

I decided to give it a go too..... ever since my troubles(lack of resources) wid my old ancient computer, I have developed an extreme joy, bordering on passion for deleting temp files, defragmenting, HD scanning, reg cleaning, adware scanning, etc. even tho i have a fairly modern comp now.

JV16 powertools. Does the other stuff too, can be scripted as well. Surprisingly good at fixing little niggles and also can be used to pick out the registry entries of one program installation. Essential but unfortunately no longer free.
