    on again off again mouse

I have a MS optical trackball mouse with a semi-broken wire near the mouse end. It's driving me insane as it's on and off 500 times a day. Before I tear it apart, or tear my roots out, how easy would it to be to cut the section out and re-soldier the conection inside? Would it be better to leave the wire inside intact and try to just cut a section of wire and splice together? Thanks

I would solder the wires first. If it works then you won't have to go further. I would also position a piece of shrink tubing over the splice. It will make a much neater job than trying to use electrical tape.

thanks - do you know how many wires and how thin? I have a very hot iron - it's a "princess" style but too many watts.

It's been like this for months - getting progressively worse. I have to hold it at a certain angle, at times holding the wire at a certain position - it's still very intermittent - I can't react to it, as much as I want to, because I can't afford another - slamming it is not an option - oh but how I wish!!

    LOL - I remember that thread -
