Unhappy Desktop Volume Bar is GONE

Can anyone tell me what could cause the volumbe indicator bar on my desktop to just disappear? I'm going crazy trying to find a solution.
I'm running WinXP Home Editon; HP Pavilion 980-XA; Pentium 4
I haven't installed any new updates. What can I do to restore the volume control bar?

Got to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume, then check "Place volume icon on the taskbar".

Re: Desktop Volume Bar is GONE

    Hi Conan:

Thanks for your reply. I've already tried that. The icon is in the task bar. The problem I'm having is that there are no bars...those that go across the screen...to indicate how high/low your volume is. Now I never know how high the volume is. It just vanished! Anything else I can try?
