I posted a solution in a similar thread you started back in october, and you didn't bother to reply to it.

read my post in that thread and have the decency to at least let us know if it works or not.

And BTW,the reason members refer you to eggheads spyware removal thread is because it is ultimately spyware/malware that is causing your problems.Do a web search on google for "remove search assistant" and you'll see the majority of replies relate to spyware.

The cures posted in the spyware thread are made at a time when internet explorer was king. unfortunatly, Internet Explorer also had giant holes that let everybody install anything (including spyware) on your computer without your knowledge or your consent simply by viewing a banner ad at many of your favorite websites.

Spyware is now mainstream and you will find them installing on your computer from almost anywhere.

Many of the members at techzonez began using a browser called firefox. this put an end to drive by downloads and thus put an end to coolwebsearch and search assistant.

this type of spyware installs a huge amount of tentacles in the registry(backdoor entries) and spams your desktop, bookmarks, homepage, sends all your contacts in your address book spam, capture your keystrokes and passwords as well as capture your desktop and surfing habits so they can replace the ads on every website you visit with ones they made based on your websurfing. xxx ads in your emails if you visit porn sites or digital cameras specials if you visit kodac, depending on what your into and they will sell it to you.

it is extremely difficult to remove this threat as they make hundreds of different varients.

please visit Computercops for details on how to remove this threat.

or you can surf with firefox
    .
remember when reading the spyware thread that each program detects different things so you must follow and install each program on the list.

    good luck

I beleive this spyware can update it's code by downloading updates from your computer toi the internet thus making it extremely difficult to detect all traces and remove it. The guys that make this spyware are kings in the trade and do this 24/7,

cwshredder is no longer updated by the author:
    Q. CWShredder isn't fixing my problem!
    A. While it's been easy and even fun keeping CWShredder up to date, the recent variants are a living hell. The people who wrote the latest variants of the trojan surpass the older variants by far.
    - Resident DLLs from the about:blank, res://xxxx.dll or invisible variants cannot be removed by CWShredder or HijackThis.
    - Variants like f0r0r that are protected by Hacker Defender cannot be removed by CWShredder or HijackThis.

    Q. When will CWShredder be updated again?
    A. It won't be again, probably. I have a few bugs to fix, but after that there's not much left to do - I simply do not have the tools to remove the latest variants, they are too agressive or complicated to allow automated removal by CWShredder.

hey, read The CoolWebSearch Chronicles here.

also use this to protect yourself,

    BugOff:
This little app disables a few exploits that are commonly used by browser hijackers (including CWS), thus protecting you from infection. This does not remove an existing infection! Applicable to everyone that uses Internet Explorer. Currently at version: 1.10

    gete it from this page,

CWS now updated by intermute download latest version at http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe. Can also try AboutBuster but your best hope is to post your HijackThis log and someone can tell you what to fix.
