Hey Lynch try this.It pertains to "Cannot access Add/Remove Windows Components"
    1. Insert the Windows XP CD
    2. Go to Start>> Run. Type in: Expand C:\i386\NETOC.IN_ -rC:\Windows\Inf [Enter]

Or you can do a sfc /scannow also suggested. This will make sure those files that are missing are replaced.

Thanks zipp first one did not work (or do I need to reboot? also, I did not hear the CD move - I did see CMD flash). Damn I hate running sfc because I don't have xp with sp2 - well I do but it's that 4gb job with a bunch of apps. Sometimes widows can't find what it needs so I have to skip it.

Just for the heck of it try replacing NETOC.IN with msgrocm.dll.

    It's SYSoc.inf and you need a gap after the -r ....

    expand %CDROM_DRIVE_LETTER%:\i386\sysoc.in_ -r c:\windows\inf

    Look here - http://forums.wugnet.com/Help-Suppor...ict349074.html

    good luck
I'm using Windows 7 - you got a problem with that?

If the above solution doesn't fix it try this.

msgrocm .dll relates to Windows Messenger.

Reinstall Windows Messenger from here and the corrupt/missing dll will be replaced.

Oh yes that's messenger allright, apparently Themes can also cause problems when using add/remove windows comps, sysoc.inf is the file that contains the data used by add/rem.

    once again - good luck.

thanks guys. Whether there's a gap or not expand.exe starts (but did not work to solve the problem):

As far as reinstalling messenger, I have messenger (windows) started and working. Do you still recommend reinstalling? * edit - opps, I installed this one yesterday: Messenger 7.0 Final, Version 7.0.0777

    Edit*************************
Themes can also cause problems when using add/remove windows comp
    - good call, I remember this. However, I'm now using windows classic and still have problem.
