DVD Drives Lock Computer Up
Untill recently I haven't had any problems with my DVD drives, playing and burning stuff has been fine, after writing an image to my hard drive using Clone DVD and AnyDVD (which I normally use) both my drives are now acting very strange, if I open any program such as Nero, Cdex, Clone DVD then it locks the computer, I cannot close or exit from any of the opened programs, even just trying to open a DVD or CD it locks up, my only option being to manual switch the computer off, task manager will not close them either, going back to a restore point also didn't have any result, would appreciate any help fixing this problem.
LG DVD Writer GSA-4160B Firmware v.303 (latest)
Samsung DVD-ROM SD-615
Windows XP Pro SP2 with 512 mb ram
Nero v. 6606
Clone DVD v.2751

hmm, what is the image? Can you delete it (or) unistall it and see if that fixes things? Might be your registry? Strange.

The image was of a film, I can delete it but I wanted to burn it to DVD first.

Might be AnyDVD causing the problem.
Try disabling it,and see if you still get the freezes with Nero, etc.

Also right click your drive icons in My Computer, select Properties and on the Recording tab make sure the option "Enable CD recording on this drive" is unchecked.

also might try del and then reinstalling the ASPI drivers since its both drives acting funny. Might want to give that a go.

I did suspect AnyDVD and have uninstalled it but the problem remains, the info on the Aspi drivers looks promising but I am not sure how I go about unistalling them and then reinstalling, could you give me a little more info on how I can do that please.

FORCE ASPI download.

I just checked out the Force ASPI, I used the aspichk and it told me that "Aspi is not properly installed. One or more componets have been replaced with older versions of the software." I then ran the INSTASPI from the command prompt and it said it had installed and to re-boot which I did but the aspichk is still giving me the same message, trying to play a CD or DVD still locks the computer, have I done something worng here?

I decided to uninstall AnyDVD before I used Force ASPI so I don't now know why it gives me the message "Aspi is not properly installed. One or more componets have been replaced with older versions of the software."

Uninstall Nero and CloneDVD,reboot and reinstall them.
Also try sfc /scannow from the Run box. (remember to leave the space between sfc and / )
