    quicktime without itunes

    I'm watching http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html

I had to get a plugin. At apple they give a choice for XP: quicktime with itunes. For QuickTime 6.5 for Win 98/ME quicktime only - well guess what. quicktime only works in xp. Used to be only Mac and QuickTime 6.5 for Win 98/ME can have quicktime only, I think. They offer no "only" options for xp - you just have to take it.

    I use quicktime alternative

now if the video only wants to play in the latest version of quicktime I would pass.

Sometimes I create a system restore point if I'm despereate and I install quicktime to watch the clip and then I roll back right away so it won't mess up my file associations.

The only association it wants is mov. Strange - when I installed QuickTime 6.5 for Win 98/ME, it said "quicktime alternative" while it was installing.

You can still download QuickTime for XP without the iTunes bundle.Just takes a little longer to find it on the apple site.

    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

6.5 for Win 98/ME seems to work fine. It seems they want xp users to install itunes. They aren't very up front about the option for stand alone

Thanks Rev. I have been fighting this issue for a while. Itunes is gone for good.
