Does this mean we get a refund because we were sold goods not fit for purpose?
I'm using Windows 7 - you got a problem with that?

sounds like you may have a corrupt hosts file.

Look for any reference to WU in the hosts file and remove them. (open it with notepad)

    Located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

I checked my host file the day this came out

    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
At least I'm down to 4 now:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB893086)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB873333)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB890046)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB883939)

None of those "failed" updates in your screenie are in this security release.

What exactly are those updates ?? What are you trying to install ??

I don't know. I went to windows update and it said I need those updates. I then enabled auto update to see if it will update - nope. Hang on, I'll take a screenie at WU.

You seem to have a lot of unconfirmed or failed installs there. I would delete the update catalog database and re-register the appropriate dlls.
