well folks here is my current desktop

If you look closely you will see two ducks flying around. If I can manage to click one of them fast buggers my score goes up .

I also have an rss reader scrolling on the bottom right that is blue as well as full size rss reader above that.

Hovering the mouse over the tabs at the bottom displays a preview image of the tab.

I have a rock calendar that changes to a new poster all the time.

Up top I have drop down menu's filled with everyday tools I use. No need for desktop icons with these babies.

I also have a picture slideshow running on my desktop that changes every minute.

Hidden on the left and right panes are sidebars:

The are filled with links to folders, settings and documents I use everyday for work and play. (You can see the flying ducks in the picture!)

All menu's and screens are animated using winfx to mimic Aero.

*Please note - This is not Windows Vista but actually Windows XP

This computer is a lot of fun!!

Dont you find the screen a little too busy tho, especially with the flying ducks

Hi, sorry I did not see the replies until today.

I am using Aston shell for the look and feel of vista. They have a huge selection of themes here,
    http://themes.astonshell.com/

Each theme has different layers you can use such as top and bottom right and left side bard where you can store links to anything you want. These can be set to do just about anything you need including hide or dock anywhere you need em.

You can locate the exact theme I used here,
    http://themes.astonshell.com/466/

make sure to read the notes so you can grab the plugins to make it work.

You can use many from here,

The rss readers, calenders, picture holder and duck hunt are widgets from yahoo, com that you can use for free!
    http://widgets.yahoo.com/

I only went through maybe up to 1,600 out of the 3,500 or so that they have. Lots of awesome stuff there.

After you install the widget software go and find ones you like

To get the eye candy menu transitions and effects like Aero you will need WindowsFX by stardock:
    http://www.stardock.com/products/windowfx/

That should get you started and off to some fun creating something very cool to stun your friends with your ability to transform XP.

let me know if this helped you or if you need more info or leave a cool comment or something

The links and menu's at the top actually expand when I click them. The picture of techzonez in the web browser at the bottom of the desktop is actually a popup that display whenever I hover the mouse over any of the tabs.

The desktop I feel now is less cluttered and more productive and rich with info and a treat to look at.

The ducks fly around the whole screen and are always on top regardless of what i'm doing or watching... even dvd and movies they are flying in full screen. If I get annoyed by them I simply try to shoot them with the mouse until both fall to the ground. Relief in a unique way

    Update:

    Uncluttered

    Expanded

Each square expands for easy access to files and folder that I need fast at anytime. Much quicker and appealing to me than a cluttered bunch of icons on a desktop. plus the rss feeds makes the desktop a source of information and thus more interesting.
