This is a use at your own risk tweak. I am going to test it. Let you know how it works.

I saw this thread earlier today and tryed it after i bacdked up my registry.so far i havent noticed any ill effects or any advancments.
The person who told me about this added, that I should make sure I do so as a REG_DWORD the data will be shown as 0x00000001 (1)
Or did he tell me that, as he though I had no idea of what I was doing?
I saw this on another board this morning. Thought I would pass it on to those here.
This is CORRECTED information, that I received in my morning e-mail from a programmer at Microsoft.
After you go to the link below
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchPerameters
Locate the line that says: EnablePrefetcher REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
REMOVE THAT ENTRY!
Then Create a new entry that says: EnableSuperfetch REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
XP will then work correctly. Leaving BOTH lines, will work in a VERY few systems. It will normally either have NO effect, slow the system, or cause problems with Anti-Virus programs working properly.
I agree that this is something to stay away from.

I am using the setting from the information I posted with no problems. I also went over to the local univeristy today, and asked in the computer department.
I was told that the function must be supported, as if it was not a BLUE SCREEN would appear with a registry error on a restart. I was also told to check the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder to see if things were stored there. If there were it was working correctly. To make sure, I was told to delete everything in the folder and restart; use my computer for a while and then check again.
All seems to be fine, and the machine seems to be better, not sure why but it does.
Tried this tweak, I don't know if I was imagining things but my reboot seemed faster after this. Still evaluating the rest of my system.
