Hard drive beeping - what does it mean?

I have an older latptop (around 4 years old) that will beep on startup. It is many rapid beeps (say 50), and will continue until I hit a key a few times (it seems at least), then it will stop beeping after about 10 more beeps. Then it will continue to start up (sometimes, heh).

I was just wondering, does this beeping mean anything? I remember hearing back in the day that certain beeps had different meanings. So, if you know what this might mean, or know what other beeps mean, I would love your input.

    Thx a bunch.
