ran out of disc space and hard drive cannot be accessed

    hi

I ran out of disc space on my computer and windows would not even let me delete anything.

I rebooted and recieved "unmountable boot" error.

I loaded bart's pe which i am on now and cannot access the drive. bart reports not enough space to access the drive.

What the hell can I do?

chkdsk reports no errors and only 24k available on disc.

I cannot access anything and I cannot delete anything

have you tried booting off the cd and repairing?

Are you getting a stop error?

FIXMBR and FIXBOOT from the recovery console.

Wow i have never seen this before. How on earth did you fill that drive so much.Have you tried selecting "do not move files to recycle bin delete immediatly" before attempting to delete the files in question via the properties in Recycle Bin?

i booted to a windows xp disc and tried the recovery console but i cannot do a dir command on the drive. I tried to do a fresh install on the drive and windows asked to format the drive. the format utillity reports that the whole drive is empty - go figure...

    I cannot fix the installation.

the hard drive boots fine and i see the windows boot screen but it bsod with unmountable boot error.

Is there a way to delete a few folders in a hex editor or something?

Got a link to any info?

    thanks!

Your computer will not boot returning the error "Unmountable boot Volume".

    SOLUTION 1

Access the recovery console. (This is the first repair option you get after you boot off the Windows XP CD (To see where this menu is Click here), unfortunately some OEM CD's (Or recovery CD's) do not have this option)

Once you log into the recovery console type the following command "chkdsk /f". Once the scan is complete then reboot the computer. You should be able to log into Windows.

    SOLUTION 2

This option tends to be very successful.

Quite simply take the Hard Drive out of your computer, then go to a friends house, that is a friend who owns a Windows XP computer, and with permission open up his/hers computer, disconnect their CD-Rom drives, and plug your hard drive in with theirs, of course make sure the cable is seated correctly and that the power connector is plugged in.

Your friend computer will now boot up and run Chkdsk before it logs into Windows, let this run & complete.

Take your Hard Drive home and test. This method has a good success rate.

it is an 80 gig drive. I had my mp3 collection and tons of games installed etc....

I tried winhex to access the drive but it too says disc is full

i finally tried "get data back" and it reads the files and i'm able to save some stuff to a 20 gig drive.

I'm not sure if I can fdisk the partition yet but I will have to try that in a few hours or so....

how the heck can i get a program to delete 100 megs so i can get back into the drive?

Hmmm perhaps try downloading a bootable linux OS then can be booted from CD-Rom and see if you can manually delete files through Linux.

actually no porn at all. I think porn is ment to stay on the internet. and with 30 million websites to go through... Why save it when you can discover new beauty

well all i can say is trying to backup the hard drive sucks

i'm going to give up and fdisk the drive and install xp and run get data back on it again to see if anything else is salvagable.

Hmm, and 80 GB was more than enough for a home computer 5 years ago!

What about restore points? That takes up lots of space too. Try clearing it.
