    Monitor

im thinkin about gettin an LCD monitor but im curious is it better to have a higher resolution like 1600x1200 or a lower one like 1280x1024 and just turn on AA as high as it will go. i have a 7800gt so i know ill be able to take either one but the question in part is should i look for an LCD with higher resolutions or dont even worry about it. other thoughts how low of a response time should i look for and what kind of ratio do u reccomend? also is there a big difference between DVI and VGA outputs? all ideas are welcome thanks in advance

Look for an LCD with fast response time... between 2ms-12ms should be ideal the LOWER the better.

ALso you'll want a high contrast ratio. My LCD is 2 years old and it came with a 300:1 ratio which at the time was pretty high... now I've seen them as high as 700:1 which is over double what mine is.

As for the resolution, I'd go with the highest you can get.. 1600X1200 will look sweet.

Take a look at the link below for a more indepth guide:

    I'd recommend this:

If you are looking for the highest contrast ration, lowest response, low dot pitch, and 1280X1024 reso.

    If money is no object:

If picture quality is your forte:

I have the LCD that BB recommended http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824112177 and it's excellent, beautiful color, very sharp text. Its ok for games....about as good as your going to get LCD wise. I'd rather it was 1600x1200 res for gaming....but I'm old and can't do that res on desktop. I know you can scale an 1600x1200 LCD down to 1289x1024 but it doesn't look as good as native resolution.

Remember that some games don't support 1280x1024 res (doesn't make sense) and you'll need to scale down to 1024x768. Some LCD's don't do so well in this area, the SCEPTRE does an ok job for games that don't run at native resolution.

For everything (except gaming) an LCD rules ! they're easy on the eye's, sharpe as a tack, perfect geometry. You can't ask for better. For games I don't care what peep's say, CRT is the king ! With CRT your not trapped with native resolution like LCD. The first comment people make when they visit my PC setup is Man-o-Man that CRT kicks a$$ compaired to an LCD. When the two are side by side its easy to see

This is what I play my games on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116229, unless I LAN up with son then I use my LCD and he uses the CRT

This CRT is excellent for games but kinda sucks in text sharpeness after viewing an LCD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116282
