'SCSI/RAID Host Controller'
I am trying to help a friend out. She is unable to get the computer to go into standby after a period of time. This is her message "I went into the power management area to do a standy after so many hours or minutes..to put computer into standby mode and I get this message Device driver for the 'SCSI/RAID Host Controller' device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If problem persists you may need to update driver. Where do I update driver from? "
She is running XP Pro. Any suggestions, please ?

First, check to see if she has a scanner connected. If so, try to find the manufacturer of the scanner and look for an updated driver on their site.
Second, try to disable the SCSI RAID controller in the device manager.
Third try to uninstall the scanner completely and see if this fixes it. If so then she'll need to consider her options of getting a new scanner, uninstalling and reinstalling all the time, or giving up on Standby.
Another option is to fix the trouble and instead of standby, try to get it to go to hibernation instead.
Or just shut it off and turn it back on..

Hi BB, thanks for the reply and suggestions.
She does have an older scanner hooked up. If fact I had the computer two weeks ago, and had to get a driver from the scanner web site in order to install the scanner. The disc that came with the scanner was not for XP. The scanner was working when I returned it to her, but I never tried that standby mode. I had her check in device manager to see if there were any yellow exclamation marks, she says no. I will have her go back to the scanner website and see if she can find a newer driver. Then I will have her try your other suggestions. I am confused why there were no yellow exclamation marks in device manager ???

This is the latest from my friend concerning the Microtec scanner. She has deceided to just remove the scanner (it is about 6 years old) and get another, but as you can read below, she is having problems removing the scanner from the computer. Need suggestions, please.
"I was trying to get scanner to work...will not....states cannot load
msmgr32.dll, also looking for 32 bit data source.....no color correctiions
are found....to reinstall scan wizard which I tried to no avail....tried
deleting will not....states a locked file detection error...A locked file
C:\Windows\system32\WVASP132 .DLL Microtec\DCR......My inclination is to get
rid of this scanner and look for other options but I cannot delete
PS--I just got a note from her that she was able to un-install and re-install that scanner, so all is well for now--Thanks.

Make sure scanner is unhooked and the Microtek scan utilities isn't starting up with Windows. Try Safe Mode.
