    Quick Fixing for Dummies

    1. Download this http://www.spywareinfo.dk/download/mwav.exe
    2. Run it but when it defaults to unpacking at c:\kaspersky change it to c:\bases.
    3. When the program opens (Microworld Antivirus Toolkit Utility) close it.
    4. Open the folder c:\bases and make some shortcuts to your favourite place (desktop / start menu) for kavupd.exe and mwavscan.com.
    5. Run kavupd.exe - this updates the signatures.
    6. Run mwavscan.com (you should see the signature files are current) - this will clean your PC.

    Deep joy for you.
I'm using Windows 7 - you got a problem with that?

Yes it's 4.4.7 which as you rightly point out was the last un-crippled version which was freeware. Thanks to your PM I looked up somewhere you could still get it and that is where it's at, all legal and sweet with no messing around. The updater defaults to downloading at c:\bases so if you originally locate the program there - it updates itself.

It was when you mentioned the freeware version I thought I'd look to see if some nice person had kept the original freeware version available for download, luckily they had.

Yes its a nice tool, there's only one problem...mwav.exe doesn't give you any options, no quarantine, just delete's and on rare occasions re-names. KAV does have false positives from time to time and this automatic cleaning could cause a problem.

To be safe I always scan first with a version of mwav.exe that doesn't clean (I'm using the 8.1.9 verision you told me about) , that way I can view virus and determine whether or not its real or FP. If I do determine no FP then I run mwav.exe 4.4.7 and let it clean.

Of coarse peeps can just use mwav.exe 4.4.7 and not go through the hassle of double scan, just thought I'd let it be known.....

When you run mwav.exe make sure you disable your resident AV so as not to cause compatibility issue between the AV's, and for the "Dummies" make sure you re-enable your resident AV after the scan
