That seems weird. I mean like here in the states you could get into some serious trouble for posting such. I mean isn't that at least morally wrong? Maybe Im a prude but I wouldn't post picture of any of my students, eventhough there are some of them on my personal my space because they found me, not I was looking for them.

nearly everything he wrote is true. Kancho, I have been Kancho'd and I have done it back.

The best way is to do it so severely the first time you are Kancho'd and then you are never Kancho'd...

Think of Kancho like the "Wedgie" The two are related in many ways.

I have actually picked up boys from their ******* in a Kancho style to stop them from doing it to me. *they run off screaming "itai" (painful), and I am never kancho'd again.

I have to do this, or you get in Kancho wars... like he did. *sometimes I will just grab their hand and shake it wildly.

And this "game" can really hurt your anus. And that is not a joke. These kids can shove their tiny little fingers right up your sweet spot... It stings for hours.

As for discipline, I think it depends on the school. But overall, compared with American schools (the only one I have to compare it to) it's much more immature and "crazy".

But in the classroom, during class time children seem to be more focused (but again, it depends on the class/teacher/school).

Strange crap I have seen as a teacher here:

I have seen 15 year old boys cuddling each other like lovers in the classroom.

Girls picking through each others hair, holding hands, and so on.

I have seen teachers and principals/vice-principals, getting stone drunk at parties (after school) and doing all kinds of crazy sh!t.

I have taken a bath with teachers nude (called onsen here)... That was "interesting".

I have seen some teachers smack the f@ck out of kids here (but this is illegal).

I could write more than that guy did about the craziness of my teaching in Japan.. but it'd take forever. He wrote a lot and documented it, and I can say without a doubt that about 95% is true.

And I never go to the toilet with these kids (they try to look at your schlong while you urinate). Or they Kancho you in the bathroom.

I too make up nicknames for kids:

    Like:
Curly- One boy has a head full of curly hair (most Japanese have straight hair).

Cowboy - kid looks like John Wayne.

Bean - This kid looks like Mr. Bean (seriously).

Bone - He has a head the shape of a bone LOL

Dreamy - A little girl always looks at me like she's in a dream or something.

4 eyes - Another little girl who wears glasses, but the glasses are thick and make her eyes look huge.

and so on... It's very difficult to remember 1300 names for me... I just can't do it... (but the children all wear uniforms and have name placards but I can't read all of the Kanji (Japanese characters).

I have taught at both junior high and senior high schools as well as elementary and pre-schools, and in private schools as well. Of all, junior high schools are the craziest. High schools are the most severe *though some craziness still lingers, and elementaries/pre-schools are the funnest for me.

And what will surprise you is that teachers are just as crazy. They have bullying, tantrums, anger bouts (I had one teacher grab a boys penis after the boy stuck his finger up her front part)... I mean it can get wacky, really wacky.

But the majority of the time it's just fun. Like Friday I and 2 other teachers (both just started working) spent the day getting our "Language Lab" decorated and ready for the new ichinensei(first graders) in junior high. We made ABC trains, maps, pictures, body part charts, weather patterns and so on. We spent the better part of 4 hours on Thursday and Friday getting it set up.

We also used some technology that is miraculous. It's called a A SmartBoard and it lets you use a projector/and computer as a interactive device.

You can move the mouse with your fingers, you can "write" English and change it over to fonts. It's really a nifty piece of technology, so next week we will use this SmartBoard to introduce the capital letters of the alphabet. We will use a powerpoint presentation on this screen to show students the letters in their capital form.

THis kind of stuff amazes me about Japan, but the really strange thing is they have this high tech, but then we don't have hot water, or air conditioning in the school. It's quite vexxing.

As for posting pictures, as long as the picture is innocent I see nothing wrong with it. I think in America we've gone overboard with "protecting" children, that the bond between a teacher and student cannot develop because teachers are afraid of being sued. So they distance themselves from kids and their relationship suffers because of it.

And Bionic blond, if you want to see American kids on google:

    http://images.google.com/images?q=am...00&sa=N&tab=wi

There are tons of images of kids teachers etc...

I think those kids should be protected from predators and so on.. but in a way teaching in Japan as an AET is a different sort of job.. you are more like a culture ambassador than a teacher. Your job is to teach English of course but you are also there as an influence to the children and as a means to teach your culture to them so that when they grow up their perspective of the world is enhanced by this experience.

Yes I have worked with the smart boards, arent they the neatest things...once you learn how to hook them up. Everything is an adventure for me being a substitute! But I do agree with you there about cultural ambassador, I betcha that is fun. I see myself the same way, obviously in a much smaller fashion though. Let me explain, there are way too many stereotypes in the world, especially here in the states and I think it is important that children see a black female that is intelligent and holding a respectable job, without the attitude, etc. I feel a need to especially combat against rap videos and what is portrayed in them, intelligent people realize this is fantasy, but children do not. Quite a bit of our youth think that these singers/rappers truly live this way and for most of them this is straight up bullsh!t. The most successful ones have wives, children, etc and most of it is just a phasad. I know it sounds crazy but most people are easily brainwashed and by people I am referring to adults so of course how can we expect any more of children....Hope I did not veer too far off topic.

I have this bookmarked and have been reading it over the course of a couple of days. This is some hilarious stuff, American public schools are tame compared to this....well ok maybe not all of them, but I worked at "inner city" schools and these Japanese schools blow them away.

I hate working with Jr. high school kids, hormones and sugar rushes...still funny stuff, but nothing like this.

I've been to a couple here and it's hilarious. There's this one joint that is right in the middle of a department store and to get into it, there's a 360 degree curtain you have to walk through... it's right in the middle of a department store, and people know what you are doing when you go "into the curtain" LOL

They have all kinds of porn, stuff you can't even begin to dream about (google "EEL GIRL")... LOL

And the funny thing is you see this crap everywhere... especially the hentai anime *hentai means perverted. It is in supermarkets, convenience stores, book stores, train stations, department stores, vending machines... it's nasty and twisted and perfectly legal.

But they hide genitalia (only the glans and vagina) tits and ass are A OK! It's a hilarious and odd conundrum. (no real porn yet animated sicko anime porn is fine)... and I am talking about stuff like tentacle rape porn, kiddie porn, and so on all done in Anime style.. it's sick, and accepted...

But the when he talked about taking the strap-on and that old man... that made me sick to my stomach. ewww.....
