Thermal issues maybe? Power supply? Like Piper said, please post more info on your system and the situation surrounding the shutdowns.

Why did you reformat your PC - is it because of this problem and you hoped that it would cure it. From the limited symptoms that you have described (ie you can't turn it back on for a few hours) it would most likely appear to be a hardware issue PSU, MB or CPU fan. Each of these sub components have built in safeguards which will sometimes prevent you turning th PC back on.
I'm using Windows 7 - you got a problem with that?

I'd check the power supply on it... because it is new. As well as the power supply switch (it could be faulty.)

Further I'd run a memory test to see if memory could be responsible for the shutdown trouble.

But before that you might want to run a scan for spyware, adware, viruses, etc...

    Step 1
    Download
    http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.1a.iso.zip

    Step 2
Unzip the download to a folder.

    Step 3
burn .ISO file to Disk using your preferred burning application (I use NERO)

    Step 4
Place newly burned ISO in CDROM

    Step5
Make sure CDROM is selected as first bootable device in your BIOS.

    STep 6
with CDROM in drive *that is set as bootable and reboot the computer with the CDROM in the drive.

    Step7
Follow the instructions on the screen to run the tests.
Should look like the image below:

The following outlines it in more detail:

First thing....open the case and see if it's dirty inside, especially the heatsink/fan.
