    Presumably I need this to actually build the application from source? This is one of the things about Linux which puts me off!

    no, gcc2.96-c++ is needed on Linux for the INTEL Compiler to work.

    Synapitic is the program in PCLOS that list all the software available for you, you just mark it for install and it downloads & installs automatic...easy.

    I use PCLOS every day for everything I do, I push buttons just like in Windows, never had to compile from source (don't know how ) I've never even needed the Command Line yet, except to make Re-Mastered Live CD's .

    To me, the hardest thing about Linux is learning the new names of programs.
