The CD burner works. The drive just doesn't read blank DVD's. And the laptop is only a couple of months old.

update: I just downloaded and ran DVD-Identifier. Guess what? My DVD drive is not writable; only the CD part is. Bummer.

One is a Combo like yours and the other is a CDRW DVDRW.

OK, so I need an external DVD burner. I've installed Vista RC1. What's good, and how much $$?

Get This Drive and put it in This case or get This Drive and replace your drive.

optical drives are easy to replace in laptops,so unless you want to take the external wherever the laptop goes,I would just buy the slim DVDRW drive.
