If i recall correctly, before the 10/100 there was a strictly 10Mbit card, ( I have a 3com 10 Mbit PCMCIA NIC for a laptop that is strictly 10bit)but these days most cards are 10/100 meaning, depending on how the PC's are connected, (usually this is autodetected by your system) you will either connect at a maximum of 10Mbit or 100Mbit. I get 10Mbit on my wireless connection and 100 Mbit on my LAN (wire-based) connection.

Can you try Cable?
If you can, check to see if you can get a cable modem. Mine costs $45 per month, and I average downloads at 240kBs per second. Thats kilobytes!! It rocks, and is way faster than that dsl deal you found. It is not exact, but a general rule to determine download is a factor of 10, such 1000mbs or 1giga bit per second will get you around 100kBs per second. So, I am connecting at around 2.4 to 3 giga bit per second.

No cable offered in my area.
The one I listed is the only "bargan" DSL around. The other company is $99 month.

Its just a different speed - 10mb will only transmit up to 10mb 10/100 will be able to do both
