    bluetooth drivers

My cell phone is bluetooth-enabled, as is my laptop. However, whenever I try to connect one to the other, Vista keeps giving me the "found new hardware - install new driver" message. And then it can't locate one!

    1. wtf do I need a driver for a cell phone?
    2. If it would tell me EXACTLY what driver I need, I could google it.
    3. If this info is logged, where would it be in event viewer?
    4. At this point, I don't know whether to call MS (O/S), Dell (PC), or Sony Ericsson (phone).

But at least one of them deserves a serious ear-blistering for frustration due to insufficient info.

Here's the event logs, in xml format, zipped. Please tell me someone here can decipher these.

Do you have Defender running? Disable it.

Have you tried adding it via Bluetooth Devices (Hardware and Sound) in the Control Panel?

What Dell model do you have?

for my dell 6400, i had to install the toshiba bluetooth drivers that came with the recovery/image CDs for the laptop.

Microsoft didnt license the bluetooth TCP stack, so third party companies need to provide the cd.

I dont think the phone manufacturers provide (they only give you the software applications for photo and video transfer etc)...

The phone itself should be natively supported and not need a driver, if you are just trying to move files back and forth. Now if it's trying to use the phone as a modem or something like that then it may need to install additional drivers.

And where would I get them? I'm trying to sync both PIMs.
Here's the diagnostics report. Read it in good health.

There are lots of BT shareware apps at the link that may help with what you are trying to do. If the vendor doesn't have updated software that is.

Hopefully you will find one that is Vista compatible.

    1. I emailed Sony Ericsson. Got a lameass autoresponse, including some bushwa about it might take time due to inclement weather. On the Internet? Hello!
    2. I downloaded a few things from that site you posted. The bluetooth diagnostic can find my phone.
    3. Haven't had the energy to look for/install drivers that'll work with my phone.
    4. And I think I have a torn rotator cuff.
