Unhappy XP and Creative 12X DVD Drive

    Hi folks........

Need to know if anyone else has experienced problems with DVD-CDROM drives with XP. Creative 12X DVD ROM Drive will not play DVD's, just get a blank screen, do hear sound via Sound Blaster Live Sound Card. Tried other DVD viewing software, PC Friendly etc. All say they cannot initialize DVD driver. Downloaded latest drivers (that Creative SAYS works) but it doesn't. You guys are the greatest here, so I thought I'd make this my first stop. Does anyone know how I can make this thing work? Emailed Creative twice......no answer, and phone calls yeild LONG waits on hold.

I got a guy waiting to buy this system........HELP!

    Thanks,
    Sharon

First what type of video card do you have ? and what version of drivers for it ?

Have you tried Power DVD , WinDVD , ATI DVD , NvDVD ?

Let us know & we'll get the DVD going

My advice is sell it or return it then get another brand of DVD player.

    Unhappy XP and Creative DVD

    Hey Guys,

In this system we put an ATI Radeon 7200 64MB Video card, updated drivers.

I'll try reinstalling Java to see if that helps........

So far creative has not replied to two emails concerning this problem. I'm not too enthused about their recent "queing" of folks trying to download drivers from them and they are extremely slow in posting them. I've had two burners of theirs go out in just over a year. We use their modems almost exclusively, sound as well. Any other suggestions?

Is there a list somewhere if hardware that is compatible with XP so that I can avoid this problem in the future? I like to build them and get them out the door within days of customer orders. This is only my second load of XP, so I'm still green!

Thanks a million all for helping a needy newbie!

    Sharon

    About the drive,
Just from my reading, it would seem Creative has dropped the ball on owners of this card. Most people claim near complete incompatibility with windows XP.
You could always try a dual boot with windows 98 or 2000.
If not, I would sell the drive or give it away and get a new one.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

DVD-ATI-XP....Hmm thats what I was afraid of

First make sure your using ATI DVD player , Power DVD or WinDVD...now in the DVD player set up , disable Hardware acceleration and give a try. I had the same problem with the 8500 till I found the right drivers....(that could mean Old or New)

If that doesn't work.... your in deep dooo with the rest of the ATI crew I'm not saying that it's not the DVD drive cuz it could be....but the problem you describe is almost a Legend with ATI.

Check out The Wizards of ATI , perform a search on DVD and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I also agree with Conan & BB on the Creative DVD...you'll be better served with Toshiba & LiteOn DVD drives

You can also check Hardware/Software compatibility at NTCompatible

Which ever DVD player software you use, make sure you are using the correct Region code.

BTW guys, most Creative DVD drives are Samsung or Lite-on clones.
