What's the best External Hard drive for $100

What brand & model? I had a Fantom that malfunctioned after 6 months. I'm looking for something that will back up my operating system & software? Maxtor & Seagate both have 5 year warrantees.

    Thanks

I think it's rather hard to answer this question as any hard drive could have problems no matter the brand. But a good starting point would be what size hard drive are you looking for and also what type of connection do you prefer (SATA,USB,Firewire)?

I would have a couple questions. What is its purpose. Will it be additional storage, backup for a single computer or do you want to make it a NAS drive connected to a router that can be accessed by every computer on a LAN.

Yes they're a name brand. Their first product was called Zip Disks which had a capacity of 128 or 256mb.

    Thank you.

Maxtor/Seagate has a 5 year limited warranty. Iomega has a 1 year warranty. Should I go with the longest warranty?

Is there any External Hard Drive that will automatically back up my operating system and software?

    -Have a nice weekend.

Veronica make a good point here. My choice would be to buy the drive you want then buy an enclosure. The warranty period is a valid consideration in buying a new drive. The only real consideration in buying an enclosure depends on whether the drive is IDE or SATA.

Here is a link for IDE drives - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati....asp?CatId=134

    SATA Drives - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati....asp?CatId=139
