How long did your previous printer last?

    Hi

My $49 Canon printer broke after 2 years.

A friends $200 multifunction printer lasted 2 years. A computer repair shop told him that printers only last 2 years.

Another friends laser printer lasted about 10 years.

Has anyone had a cheap printer that lasted a long time and was easy on ink consumption? Does any one know of one?

    Thank you.

    Hi veronica,
It is getting tougher these days to find good quality equipment, and printers seem to be a mixed bag.

Now depends on what you mean by broken? I've had a few HP Laser printers, and they were generally very good, 5-10yrs old etc, the only trick is to obviously replace the toner when it runs out (usually 5000 to 10000 pages), and every year or 2 years, get the printer drums cleaned and maintained (sort of like cleaning the CD Drives)...

I guess it really depends on your usage as well... if you do lots of B&W printing, then a cheap to middle Laser printer is excellent value. If you do lots of photos, then a photo printer ink-jet is the go... i'd probably stay away from Multi-function, as they typically are not good at anything.

I'm sure some of the other guys will be able to give you some examples and prices of printers.

    Hi cash

I only print 1 greeting card at a time, but I have made a lot of greeting cards. No where near a 1000 though.

    Thank you for replying.

In that case, i'd probably just get another $49 printer, and hope it lasts 2 years again

Get a printer thats good on ink (cheap $), Canon over the years has been the best followed by HP, Lexmark is usually the worst. I don't want to talk about Epsom.....

My Canon S600 & S900 photo printers are about 6-7 years old, printed tons of pic's, cards, MS office doc, dam things are still kicking strong, ink is cheap and last long time...unless I do photo's

When those break I'll get a good color laser printer.

I would agree with you if she were a high volume user. With her print volume any color printer with decent print resolution will do.

I once had an old cannon bubblejet that lasted a good 10 years or so and actually still works to this day although i upgraded long ago to a lexmark all in one printer.

How old was the cannon bubblejet? How often did you use it?

How much did your printers cost? You must have all had expensive printers, for them to last soo loong.
