Looking for hardware diagnostic software. [FIXED]

Does anyone know of a bootable Application that can test hardware components of desktops and lap tops? Something like the DELL diagnostic CD but for multiple systems brands? This way there can be only on Disk that can check hard drive status, mother board and ect.

What do you mean by test? as in for failures or just product identification / specification?

Perhaps a LiveCD of a linux distro might have some useful tools. Can belarc be made to be bootable?

The biggest thing I’m looking for a bootable CD that will test hardware functionality. Like the mother board, IDE connection, CD rom, CPU, RAM… to see if they are working and responding. For example on a Dell D800 laptop it has an onboard diagnostic feature that tells you if you basic hardware is working or not. I’m looking for something along the same lines that I can put to a bootable CD so I can test any computer for hardware and POST failures.

I've used the Hiren Boot CD for a while, and although it does most of the utilities you need, the UBCD seems a bit more refined and greater features. The best one i've used has been the Mini-PE XT , liveCD for windows
