RealNetworks has agreed to abide by a court-ordered temporary restraining order and has halted sales of its RealDVD DVD ripping software.

According to Kyrsa Dixon, the director of public relations for RealNetworks, the halt went into effect on Saturday. The decision was a result of a temporary restraining order that was asked for and apparently granted by a judge last week.

A note posted on the RealDVD Web site says that Hollywood forced the shutdown.

"Due to recent legal action taken by the Hollywood movie studios against us, RealDVD is temporarily unavailable," the site says. "Rest assured, we will continue to work diligently to provide you with software that allows you to make a legal copy of your DVDs for your own use."
